Boiler scaling is a stealth invader. Scaling occurs in the boiler as the water is heated and becomes steam. The boiler acts as a distillation unit, extracting the pure water, now steam, while leaving behind concentrations of contaminants and minerals. Some of the forms of boiler scale are calcium carbonate, calcium silicate, and calcium sulfate.
